To go into even more detail, when potato tubers are exposed to light as 
they are growing, they turn green in that area.  That's why it's 
recommended not to eat green portions of any potatoes you buy.  I've eaten 
some along with the rest of the potato and have had no ill effects.  
Perhaps it's because it didn't amount to much in the volume of the overall 
meal.
