natural wood preservative for raised bed?

My latest project is to build a raised bed. This may have been covered a
million times by now, but does anyone know of a good nontoxic,natural
preservative to use on untreated wood, probably pine? Am I correct that
this is all I would need to do to condition the wood? Is shellac a
possibility? Thanks for your help!
