Sorry I was too general about cowpeas.  The ones I planted were black-eyed
peas of uncertain pedigree I bought in bulk out of a gunny sack in a feed &
seed store in West Texas.  "Cornucopia" lists 40 different types, varieties,
cultivars and crosses of cowpeas including those mentioned in the post(s) by
Clark Womack.  I have grown red clover here(Phoenix) in the winter in our
high pH desert clay and it grew okay but it didn't get quite as tall or
bloom quite as prolifically as it does in Indiana, for example.  Haven't
tried it here in summer.
