Water the carrots. Then take your forefinger and stick it into
the mud right along side where the carrot should be, and if
you find something approaching the size you're looking for,
pull it up. Also, the top of the "carrot" part usually shows
above ground level, and you can judge from it how large the
carrot might be. Finally, don't wait until your carrots are huge
before you harvest and eat them. Old carrots are woody.
