Re: Tomato Spirals

I couldn't find the spirals but perhaps you could request a catalog. These are
where I bought mine.

It would probably be very difficult to put a full grown tomato on a spiral.
Once the main stem gets thick it is pretty brittle, in my experience, so it
would be difficult to wind it around the spiral. I broke a couple of stems by
adding the spiral too late. I didn't have them when I first planted the
tomatoes.

It seems people either love 'em or hate 'em. I think if you prune your tomatoes
to one or two main stems, they do fine. For a really bushy, multi-stem tomato,
they probably don't work as well. I have a 5 foot tall Roma with 51 full size
tomatoes, and the spiral is holding up fine. I am using them on some other
types of tomatoes, cucumbers, and some very tall, spindly peppers and I really
like them. They cost about $5 each but they should last forever.
