Re: old carpet for mulch

I've used it for years, but only on soil I never plan to plant in.  I don't 
know what awful stuff might break down into the soil.  But if it does not 
come in contact with your beds(inside)then I think it is very good.  I just 
used pieces cut to fit the width of the path and layered them all the way 
down the path.  Every once in a while I put more down to spiff it up a 
little(every few years)and as it breaks down a little.
