		During the dog days of summer, sweet peppers, especially,
benefit from
		afternoon shade.  It keeps their taste from going bitter,
too.  I plant
		bells in large pots for that very reason and rotate them to
areas that get
		afternoon shade from mid-July until mid-August.  It seems
like after that,
		they can take the full sun in the afternoon because it's not
as intense--at
		least in the northern half of the U.S.  The south is another
story.  There,
		I'd keep the shaded in the afternoon well into September and
start shading
		them at the end of May.
