Instant Gratification: Blackeyed Peas

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share something positive from my garden! I have thoroughly
enjoyed growing cowpeas (the blackeyed variety to us southerners) this
summer. One of the most fun things about them is that they really do provide
instant gratification! I've just made my third planting...my seeds arrived
in the mail Saturday morning, I had them in the ground by noon (3/4 of a 4X4)
and this afternoon many of them are already peeking their heads up through
the soil...guess they like the 100 degree heat we've had since then! They
will begin forming pods very quickly and I'll be picking them in just a
matter of weeks. They are basically trouble-free and provide a good crop
from even a relatively small planting. My favorite way to eat them is to
cook them with a few pods of fresh okra! :) (BTW, my okra has been another
good, trouble-free producer that likes the hot weather.)

So...plant some blackeyed peas...there's still time for a crop before
winter...and enjoy!
