Sorry about the Happy
'99 worm. Just now got back online myself. Apparently it came
attached to a bed & breakfast reservation confirmation I received.
Those poor people got it from a CD that came with their new computer (how could
that happen?) and they blew their system twice. Evidently, in most
cases it doesn't do much damage, but changes all your file names as it latches
on to them. Then when you clean it out, your files go along with it.
My tower spent a couple of days with the computer doctor and got a great
updating, so there was some benefit for me. Maybe others learned something
and are now better protecting their systems too.
Thanks for all your patience
and suggestions about how to deal with it. I now have McAfee Virus Shield,
so don't expect further incidents. Hope everyone else is clean
again!
