Nope you're still here..I've been up to my elbows in tomatoes(eating them and
stewing for the freezer) and zuchinni(eating the smaller ones..and shredding
the 'baseball bats' for bakingfreezing)..yummies.
Our favorite eating tomatoes the Brandywines have succumbed(as usual) to
wilt/fungus/something..the Heartland are wonderful..small compact bushes that
needed NO staking/caging..but have good sized tasty fruits(these were a test
this year..but are a definite MUST for next year). The 3 Sweet Millions we
got from a friend tried to take over the corner we gave them..well they DID
wipe out a couple of pepper plants..next time we do cherry tomatoes..we plant
them further apart..and prune them more!!!!!
Our potatoes did GREAT!!! I just placed the seed potatoes on the ground
covered them with 1" of soil and surrounded it with a rose collar(3
potatoes/collar) and when the leaves/stems reached @3" over the collar..I
filled the collar with shredded bark mulch and slipped another collar down
into the first about 1-2"..waited again until the plant came over the top and
filled it up again...I did this up to @2-3ft high..the plants died back last
week..and I was worried due ti the bad reports...I harvested a bucket of
'New potato' sized(perfect for potato salad) ..and about 3 perfect for
baking....wheeeeeeee.
The bell Peppers are NOT doing well..they are fine if I harvest them
green..but we like them red..and by them they are getting soft and yucky...ah
well maybe next year.
Sorry to go on.. but I had to brag...this is our last year in the community
garden at the Apartment complex..next year we will be starting over in our
OWN house!!!!
Anyone dumb enough to help us build the new raised beds......
..........didn't think so ;-)
