Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi all,
Just in case anyone's interested, I have a update concerning my post of last
week....
<< I am so curious about a bug seen frequently in my garden and I have not
been able to find it in my books. Maybe someone can help. It is dark brown,
about 1" long and somewhat resembles a soldier beetle with the spines on the
shoulder. A distinguishing characteristic is that on its back legs there is
a diamond shape projection that fans out on either side of the leg>>
<<surrounding it were 10-12 tiny very "red" baby bugs crawling up and down a
pea pod right by the big bug as though they were pups with their mother. She
seemed to be watching over them. I have never seen these "baby" bugs before
yesterday. They were still there in the very same spot today, all day long.
Could this be a mother bug with her babies??
>>
The "mother" and babies are still hanging around my peas and the babies have
about tripled in size. They are an orangy red with very black legs that are
developing those diamond shaped projections on their legs like the mother's.
There are two black dots on their backs. I haven't noticed them doing any
damage to the leaves or pea pods. The mother now leaves for a day or so and
then returns to check in, it seems. Wish I knew for sure what they
are...sure hope they're good!
Juliana
