Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the list and quite new to gardening also. I was visiting
Thanksgiving Point, UT last spring and was stunned by their square garden. A
co-worker was reading Mel's book at the same time and we talked about it at
length. I build 4 redwood boxes and got a huge load of "garden mix" from a
local greenhouse, I bought seeds from the grocery store and several small
plants. I hadn't read Mel's book, I was just going from what I remembered
from conversations with my co-worker. My garden turned out quite well, but
it seemed to me it was too crowed, especially the tomatoes and zucchini.
Overall, I was really happy with the results and we enjoyed a lot of great
vegetables.

A few days ago, the bug bit me again. I started browsing all the on-line
seed stores and I actually bought (and read most of) Mel's book, then I read
everything I could find on the Internet and subscribed to this list. I now
know I made a lot of mistakes last year, but I got a lot of experience from
it. I look forward to doing a lot better this year. I am considering
building planter boxes on wheels for vertical crops to help provide shade to
our western patio. Anybody has experiences to share about that? Also,
anybody else in Utah who could tutor me on growing things in this climate? I
should also mention that I am originally from France and I really want to
try growing some French veggies this year (petit pois, haricots verts,
mâche, flageolets, that sort of thing.) Thanks!
