RE: Too Quiet

Hi all,
I wouldn't have a clue as to why it is so quiet because I have just
signed up.
Maybe I can get something going...

I am an avid gardener living in New Zealand (any other S. Hemis out
there?) and have finally got a HUGE veggie/flower/weed patch. I've been
using the ground for two years now doing all the usual organic sort of
things and just came across the Sq. Ft idea on the web a couple of weeks
ago. Thought I would take and convert one or two of my 'plots' into Sq.
footers for fun. I have 12 1.2 x 3.5m plots with walking paths between

So here is me, PhD student on a limited income with limited time (hope
to submit by Xmas). I live in Christchurch where the wind blows and
blows and blows. Day temps can range from 30 C to 10 C (yes, on the
same day!). How do I get started? What can I plant now-start of summer
in Christchurch? It must be either a fast grower or frost hardy because
I can expect the first frosts to occur 'round-a-'bout March/April.
Maybe I can do my winter veggies in the sq. ft style? Now there's a
thought! What do you all plant for winter?

Well, I better get back to work. I look forward to being on this group.
Cheers
Shona
