Don't let the grass go to seed!! At least cut it down before seeds
form or you will multiply you garden troubles.
I don't think any one disease would cause all these symptoms that you
describe. I'm inclined to suspect the soil itself. What do you mean
by 'lots of amendments'(pH problems, herbide residues)? Was the
'composted manure' store bought steer manure(high salts)? Could you
have taken your soil out of balance(too much nitrogen)? It sounds
like time to get a soil sample tested.
Gardening is supposed to be fun. This sort of thing can be very
discouraging, but the answer could be simple given the right
information. Give us some more info about your garden and get that
soil testing started. In California spring time planting is right
around the corner. Let's get your troubles sorted out before lettuce
planting time.
