Besides the ones listed, I want to caution folk to look closely at the
catalogs you do get. Usually there will be a small section of OP seeds near
the end of the listing for all the hybrid in each section. Or, the name will
be an indicator, will have F1 or hybrid listed in name or initial
description.
Shepherd's Garden Seeds is often sneaky and puts the hybrid/OP description
somewhere in the body of the message so I go thru and hilight all the OP
ones so I won't have to scan them every time.
Pinetree Garden Seed offers quite a few OP varieties, and the owner is a
member of SSE, so I feel like they are very much aware of the importance of
promoting OP types.
Seeds of Change is a wonderful catalog, much information and all the seeds
are open pollinated, and are organically produced.
AND, bear in mind that most herbs and quite a few chile peppers are not
popular enough (yet) to have been hybridized by the big commercial growers.
You can still buy habanero peppers and poblanos in the grocery store and
grow out your own replacement plants from open pollinated types. NO
GUARANTEES on that, but they reproduce very true to type at any rate.
I love browsing through Seed Saver's Exchange huge 'catalog', but also keep
in mind that you will pay $1 - $2 per packet and when you order a couple
from this grower and a few from another one, it'll really start to add up
moneywise.
