Re: Tobacco


     Bernie,
     
     I am a smoker and my partner will not let me smoke anywhere near the 
     vegetable garden or even around her roses. The reason is that tobacco 
     can contain the tobacco mosaic virus and many non-resistant tomatoes 
     are susceptible to this virus. It's probably not the smoke so much as 
     it is dropping ashes or putting out butts in the garden. So I am very 
     careful to finish my cigarette and carefully wash my hands with soap 
     and water before I go into the garden. Same reason for washing your 
     tools when you use them to pull out sick plants.
     
     P.S. Besides a meaning of someone who studies too hard, what is a 
     troll?

OK! This what is known as a troll. Maybe I'm just being really gullible today.
     
Richard, I'm actually very curious. Are you concerned that the tomato plants 
will feel bad realizing that their cousins are being smoked up right there 
in front of them? 
     
Remember the 1960s book, The Secret Life of Plants? Who knows...?
