Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi, Gay --
I just planted some this year. In the spring I put in some alpine
strawberries , in little 4x4 beds (and spent the whole livelong summer
nipping off their many buds -- I think these little guys have been more
trouble than they're going to be worth -- oh well. They don't put out runners.)
This fall I put in quite a few everbearing in 3 x 10 beds. I don't intend to
do the mat row method, but rather allow certain of them to put out runners
to replace the older plants (eventually) and thereby keep the bed going
longer instead of replacing them every 3 or so years (isn't that what they
say to do with mat rows?). Since I didn't have quite enough to totally fil
my 3 beds, I left a little space here and there to fill in with runners next
year.
I don't see why sq. ft. wouldn't work unless you definitely want to do mat
rows. Perhaps others have some other or additional experience to share.
