Ortho did a few studies on this in a Tomato book.
They found black to result in a couple more degrees.
Black things get hot.
You want that on the soil.
Clear makes sense.
But studies in the late 60 also showed engines which were painted black,
exuded more heat. Well, you want that toward the soil, so OK. But at night,
not toward the sky... so what gives? Dunno. But it was a couple degrees
better in multiple trials over ten days.
Plus, weeds don't get light, they said.
I would hazard...
If you had two identical greenhouses,
one covered with clear plastic, one black...
which would be hotter inside,
and which would therefore, buildup & have the warmer soil?
