Katherine- You can buy a little bottle of stuff that will kill the fungus
(mine is called Damp Off). It seems to work well as no damping off happened here
at all last year.
Hope this helps,
bill missen.

I
am trying my hand at starting seeds indoors this winter for the first
time. I bought a Lee Valley seed starter which is insulated foam and has a
capillary mat that waters the seeds from the bottom. And of course it has
a clear plastic cover.
I put some kale seeds in a couple of days ago
and the first ones are poking through this morning. But I am seeing a bit
of fuzz on most of those heads so I am guessing it is damping
off.
Is there anything I can do to save the seeds that have yet to poke
their heads up? Would taking off the cover help things? I used a
planting mix of half vermiculite and half milled sphagnum peat moss so
I thought I wouldn't get this problem. -- Katherine Wendt DataWiz
