Kurt,
Unless they are of the biting variety or invade your living space, I
wouldn't worry about them too much.  They do an excellent job of helping the
compost to decompose.  They turn it for ya.  My compost seems lighter and
finer when they move in for a while. I'm not sure if it's because of the
digging they do or if it's because they are eating some of the kitchen scraps.
If you turn it often they'll move out.
