Hi Eric,
I'm a new subscriber to SQFT and new to the concept. I tried the
technique described in OG in the FEB 96 issue. I have tried to grow
potatoes for several years before this with no luck at all. This
method worked for me, I actually got some potatoes! I dug holes about
a foot deep and apart. I put the seed potatoes in the bottom of the hole
and covered them with a little soil, enriched with compost of course,
watered and waited for them to pop up. As they grew, I would put a little
more soil over them until the hold was completely full. After all the holes
were full, I put grass clippings for a mulch and kept the potatoes covered
with a floating row cover. We got a few meals from the dozen I planted,
best potatoes I ever tasted! Hope this helps.
:) Sheri
