Dusty,
I planted okra for the first time in my square-foot garden last
year. I would suggest a spacing of at least 10" between
plants because they tend to grow large leaves and pods which grow
upward but a bit outward as well. I spaced mine about 10" apart and
they fit in very well with each other; however, this was a single
row (I ended up with about 6 plants, taking up the length of the
raised bed where I sowed them).

If you are planning on putting in several rows of them, you might
wish to place the rows farther apart, or intersperse them with
another, companion crop, just to be able to get in to the plants and
harvest.

Be aware that the plants are very prolific! You really do have to
get out there and harvest every day, and just a few plants will
provide a family of 2 with plenty of table-eating okra. If you're
planning on preserving them, that's another story.

Last year I planted Clemson Spineless; however, this year I'm going
to try the new Cajun okra that is the "in thing" in the catalogs.
