Gary,
I share your concerns about the cotton burr compost.  We have cotton and
rice fields locally and can get rice trash and cotton trash, but the local
farmers use so many chemicals that lab tests have shown that some of the
pesticides stay in the soil and are taken up by new plants.  I just try to
use as many leaves and make as much compost as I can.
