Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
This is -not- an organic gardening list, it is a Square Foot Gardening list.
It is based upon the method described in the book Square Foot Gardening, in
which practices which might not qualify as Organic are described. Although I
and several others on the list -do- practice Organic Gardening, it would be
wrong to assume that this list is appropriate for the discussion of Organic
Gardening except in passing as it relates to a question about Square Foot
Gardening.
I have problems sticking to this suggestion myself, but I still think it's a
good Idea to keep this list on topic without excluding folk who go by the
book. Although I am sure we would welcome -any- other gardeners who want to
learn about SQ FT gardening, I would be among those who would complain if
we got too far into Organic Gardening. Partly because I also get sick of the
Elitist bickering you are talking about, and wouldn't want it to start here.
The problem is that Organic Gardening does not have a book. It has many.
Each different. Even the terms you used in your short description lead to
debate. Which chemicals are 'not Natural'? What did 'Mother Nature' give us?
Are pyrethrums OK when you make an extract in your kitchen, but not when a
large company does the extracting? Problems and debates everywhere.
However, whenever we have a question, at some point we can go back to the
book and say, "Well, you can do whatever you want to, but Mel says to do
it -this- way". And if Mel says it, it is -by definition- Square Foot
Gardening. No debate. He made up the name, he gets to write the definition.
Just my Opinion.

Hello All,
I am a member of this really great, or better yet was a really great
list that is being torn apart by a select few debating what is and what
is not organic. I was always lead to believe that the use of any
chemicals that were no natural was not organic. That you needed to use
only what mother nature gave you to grow in the garden. I do not wish
this to become a debate, just correct me if I am wrong. Also, do we have
members that do not square foot garden? Is it ok for me to give out
this URL to those member on the other list that wish to garden
organically?? I am so new at gardening that I don't want to do it
wrong. Debbie
