As I recall, even Mel admits to the plot size being a bit arbitrary.
It depends on your reach (I've got a couple of nephews whose
knuckles reach the ground) and the plants you're growing and the
space you have.  I just like the measurable awareness that the tiny
green thing in _this_ spot is what I wanted there, so the other
green things must be interlopers and vermin so I can kill them
without guilt now instead of waiting until they're recognizable
weeds..
