Air and soil temps needs are different things. tomatoes and sqwuash need soil
heat. Need to know what seeds. Ortho isn't perfect, but has a lotta basic
info in their veggie book.
You may want to get a 10-15$ adaptor which is a plug in GFI. It might keep
you from being wrapped up in your own old elec blanket and laid to rest. Also
it's handy for drilling and sawing in the yard, on wet ground.
I heard buy a space heater, but an elec pad was too much $?
A space heater is too much, unless you have rqcks of seeds. How about a
string of Christmas lights. You can also use a light dimmer on an IR lamp
(150-250W) (That means 2-3 cents per hour to run. But the dimmer can adjust
it for you! IF you can find nichrome wire, a heater element is usually for
120 - 250 volts AC, but can be used for less wattage with 12 VDC. If you find
some, I'll do the calcs for you and tell you what to do.
This is even true with resistors. it's just hard for non commercial folks to
find a 50 pak for a nickel apiece. THEN you have to solder them together.
(Or be a good twister.) There's reptile pads, if you have few seeds at a
time. Or a simple light, under a bench. Pick the wattage.
As for fans helping spindliness, yes, true. A PC Chip fan even. They may be
3-5 volts. A tiny battery adaptor can power it. Later, mount it atop your
monitor for that tiny touch of air, for it, or you.
Cool.
