Maybe it's a regional thing.  I have seen them at that price at least 3
times
after christmas, each time it was "the clearance table/rack/isle...."
Target (dayton hudson chain), My local Walgreens, True/Value hardware,
Menards was down to 1 or 2 cheap ones last weekend.
Of course since my posting I have only seen one or two and they were
missing the little pins you plug in to set the time.
