BTW, I asked, only semi-in jest, what about SqFt mushrooms.
Ther's a few types that WANT semi-buried hardwood.
Shitake anyone???
Maybe it's related, I got a huge growth of fungus in one bed. What do you all
think this might have been?
Bill, what a great idea! I used the stockade style years ago, using
driftwood around a herb bed, but your idea of then inoculating the logs
with mushroom spore absolutely sparkles! Margaret L
Where to get mushroom spore , por favor? Will they grow in direct sun?
Just packing them in tightly and filling holes with soil or sod did it for
me. Incidentally, I don't think this is OT either. Margaret L
I used the clay that is aplenty around here. Make sure it's wettish, use one
of the logs as a pounder to work it down good. Still a bit loose at first, but
by end of summer everything settled and the stockade is nice and tight now.
Anybody have an idea for how long something like this might
last in the ground? Or should I debark the inside and paint
the inside also...
I wondered my self, but weighed the idea with aesthetic appeal and cost and
decided it was worth the chance, even for a few years. I used all oak, too.
This stuff should last as long as most anything I could've bought. Wouldn't
bother painting the inside. I've got more trees that haven't been cleaned up
yet. (de-deadwooded)
Your approach with staggered ends is visually appealing but
I prefer to have some place to sit (however briefly) while I
plant, weed and harvest.
Chain saw, when finished!;-)
