Checking in from Alabama where last winter was good growing but this winter
is behaving like winter.
We optimistically planted miniature potatoes in our square foot beds in
October. I peeked last week and found 2. One was a little smaller than a
green pea and the other was a little larger. I only knew I was holding a
potato because they smelled like potatoes. I knew they would be miniature,
but did expect a bit more. Does anybody have experience with potatoes in
zone 7 type weather. They sprouted and were growing nicely, then we had a
freeze in December. Actually, several freezes. I thought it was okay to
plant potatoes in the fall around here. Maybe not?! Will they sprout again
in spring and keep going?
