If in doubt about old seeds, soak them 3-8 hours in this solution: 3 TBS.
hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon water. This is a recommended tactic for
germinating old seeds from Seed Saver Exchange, which often is given old,
old seeds! Also, if you are directly seeding them, sow seeds closer
together than is suggested on packages. Emerging sprouts give off light
wavelengths that stimulate seeds close by to germinate also. You can always
thin ruthlessly later.
