Hi there!
I use a very simple set up:
I save egg cartons, fill them with "mel's mix" put them on trays (old
cafeteria or 2nd hand cookie sheets) and start my seeds that way.

In february, I'm going to be starting lettuce, tomato, spinach.
and a few others...spring veggies that will be replaced with summer veggies:
cucumbers and zucchinis and melons as time goes by. This will be my first time
starting seeds indoors so I don't know exactly how it will turn out but I feel
instinctively positive about my improvised method.
