Hi Annie

You can save them, but before getting into how to do that, the problem is
knowing whether the squash was a hybrid or not. If it was, then there's no
way of guaranteeing that the seeds will produce identical fruit.
To save seeds, I rinse them, lay on a paper towel in the kitchen on a plate
and let them dry out. It's important to make sure they're not in direct sun,
but in the air so they totally dry. Large seeds, like squash should be easy.
Stir them around every so often to expose all sides to the air.
You can try the seeds from that squash, just don't know what you'll get
since you had gotten it in the store and chances would be pretty good it
would be hard to know if it was a hybrid.
Good luck.
Ellen
