I subscribe to several garden groups, and none has advertising this 
intrusive. They're on listserves such as U. Kentucky, U. 
Washington,  St.Johns U, globalgarden or even mallorn.  I've seen some hint 
that this is a mallorn list, but they don't pull this on Perennials or 
other lists.  I don't mind people getting some advertising activity to pay 
for a site, but not when it's in your face and there's nothing you can do 
about it.  They need to back off and put their message at the bottom of the 
page.  This is too rude.  Margaret L
