Speaking of nasturtiums , how long do they take to flower? I planted some in my winter garden in Miami, Florida back in november. They have grown but not flowered. A neighbor told me she couldn't grow them. I don't want to buy into her experience, but I am a little nervous. We have temps ranging from 50-85 in the day and no colder than 40 at night. Most of the winter has been very mild with temps in the 70s and 80s and 50-60s at night. It has been so nice that my eggplant is starting to flower. My tomatoes are doing great but my summer squash is not doing very well. Perhaps I should fertilize more? It sets flowers and then the flower dies off. Also, the leaves seem to get mildewed. It is humid around here. This is my first veggie garden using the square foot method. I did overplant in some plots. I am learning! I had a harvest of darby green beans that were great! I am planting more. (the recent freeze did not affect my garden because I live very close to Biscayne Bay and the temps are about 10 degrees warmer here. Coldest it got was 41.5 degrees. My baby limas are setting pods and my super sugar snap peas are starting to flower. Meanwhile, my wild kale and lettuce is ready for leaf cuttings. I planted strawberries. they are growing but no flowers yet. I got a late start because this is my first garden and I had to prepare the beds and grow the seeds. I am self taught of course. I did become a master gardener but I tend to learn by experience and reading lots of books. :) I appreciate any advice on nasturtiums and squash. I love squash and obviously have to improve what I am doing. I do water plenty. I suspect my plants need manure. We have plenty of sun. Also, some of them, the Clairmore variety, seems to split at the base of the vine. Does that harm the plant? I better plant more seeds! With Love & Light, Mary Ann <gibbs8@herald.infi.net>
