You don't need to cut back a lot on this crop (nasturtiums). Instead, simply train them up a trellis or teepee. We trained ours up a teepee made out of three bamboo stakes that we latticed with burlap twine. Worked pretty well and boy did the aphids like them. There was even a batch of basil nearby that they didn't touch.
