I remember reading somewhere that short day onions are best for texas
(ie Grano). I also remember reading (must have been the same spot) that
Vidalia is a long-day. I'm pretty sure you're right about sets/seeds.
The seeds planted this fall should be used as trasplants next spring.
However I could be mistaken.
