Blueberries and Ligonberries:

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Re Blueberries:

Blueberries come in four main types:

Highbush
Lowbush
Hybrids
Rabbiteye

Highbush blueberries are actually limited in their range by their
requirement for a good winter chill, therefore these varieties do not do
well in the south. They reach 6-12 feet.

Lowbush varieties are small but have great flavor. They are extremely
cold hardy and grow 1-2 feet tall. They spread by underground rhizomes
and form colonies. they are limited to a south most range of zone 7.

Hybrids are crosses of the other varieties and vary according to
parentage

Rabbiteye are suited for the south, surviving up to zone 6. Rabbiteyes
are not as finicky about soil Ph as Highbush blueberries. They reach
10-25 feet.

In general:

Blueberries like acidic soil, they are shallow rooted so mulch the heck
out of them with an acidic mulch like oak leaves, pine needles, saw dust,
peat etc...

Be aware like with many fruits certain blueberries are tart, some are
sweet, and some are sweet-tart. Decide which ones you like before you buy
because a tart blueberry is not going to become a sweet blueberry no
matter what you do.

Blueberries also come in early, early-mid, mid, mid-late, and late season
varieties so you can stretch the harvest for a bit.

And remember the varieties you find in the store are usually chosen for
the convenience of the grower. I.E. consideration is given to uniform
harvest time, how well they ship, perishability, and flavor, in that
order.

On Ligonberries:

They do blend well with Blueberries although they are not really hardy
above zone 5, and even zone 5 is stretching it, but with a good layer of
pine boughs and snow cover they seem to survive.
