The Fluffster says that adding a shovel of compost, etc. will help

who have experimented with solarization extensively, worms burrow deeper
into cooler soil during solarization. They return almost immediately
when
the top layers of soil cool. Many beneficial microbes such as
mycorrhizal
fungi and rhizobium go into the spore stage when the soil heats up--just
as
they do when the soil freezes.

And a big fluffy bunny hello to you(you have to be able to remember the
infamous friendly raccoon greeting from the HoneyMooners in order to get
this).

I concede the issues to the University folks. My comments were based on
my own faulty logic and positive anecdotal experiences that would never
rise to the level of science. It sounds like you can leave the worms
out folks and the beneficial microbes will return in short time according
to the folks at University of Florida.

Wishing all of you the very best, Kevin(the fluffy bunny)Mathews
