RE: mutant japanese beetle

If it's what I think it is, we used to call then 'June Bugs' when we were
kids, even though they came out more in July than June. We would catch them,
tie a piece of thread to one of there legs and let them try to fly away. .
.cheap fun on a hot summer day. I've seen them in my garden too but I
haven't seen where they've been too destructive and they don't last very
long. The heat seems to be harder on my plants than any insects have been.

Today in my garden I found a beetle that looked just like a Japanese Beetle,
but it was much bigger. It was really very pretty, but I killed it since it
was eating my beans. I saw another one of these such bugs earlier this
season. Does anyone have any idea what it might be?

Thanks,

Holly
