Dear Ann Landers
I have enjoyed your column for years.  But, today I read your
recommendation to ex smokers to chew sugarless gum as a substitute.to quit
smoking.  Bet you didn't know.Please read my reasons why you should NEVER
ingest aspartame (Nutrasweet-Equal) for any reason. (The sugarless gum
sweetener)

1. Aspartame, Equal, Nutrasweet are the same and is made of 50%
phenylalanine, 40% asparatic acid, and 10% methyl alcohol (wood alcohol),
that has killed or blinded thousands of skid row drunks).  It breaks down
into formaldehyde, and DKP (a tumor agent)
2. The free methanol begins to form in liquid aspartame-containing products
at temperatures above 86 degrees.. Also within the human body (98.6).   A
recent diet coke test proved that this breakdown happens at refrigerator
temperatures.
 Gulf War Vets report that pallets of diet colas sat in the Arabian sun
for weeks.  For some reason, they weren't supposed to have products with
sugar.  At 86 degrees F, aspartame decomposes into methanol, formaldehyde,
formic acid and diketopiperazine (causes brain tumors) and other poisons.
The best way to understand NutraSweet is to think of it as a minute dose of
nerve gas that eradicates brain and nerve functions.
3. Aspartame Disease Mimics Symptoms or makes Worse the Following Diseases:
Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's Disease,
Lupus, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), Diabetes and Diabetic
Complications, Epilepsy, Alzheimer's Disease, Birth Defects, Chronic
Fatigue
Syndrome, Lymphoma, Lyme Disease, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Panic
Disorder, Depression and other Psychological Disorders.  The entire list is
mind boggling and much much longer.
4. Aspartame is NOT a "food additive".  It is a dangerous neurotoxin that
must be removed from our food chain.
5. The National Soft Drink Association opposed aspartame early on.  Their
30-page protest is listed in the Congressional Record-Senate, May 7, 1985,
s 5507 to s 5511.  They state that Aspartame  is inherently and uniquely
unstable.
6. In May of 1992, FLYING SAFETY, the US Air Force Magazine, said that
aspartame in a single stick of sugarless gum has caused aspartame-related
disorders.  "This could mean a pilot who drinks diet sodas is more
susceptible to flicker vertigo or to flicker-induced epileptic activity.
It
also means that all pilots consuming aspartame are potential victims of
sudden memory loss, dizziness during instrument flight and gradual loss of
vision
7. On 12/29/96 60 MINUTES reported on 164 studies.  ALL studies paid for by
Searle ( Monsanto acquired Searle, original producer of NutraSweet) were
said to show aspartame was safe..  83 of the 90 independent studies found
problems.  Isn't that interesting?
8. FDA Commissioner Arthur Hull Hayes approved aspartame over the protests
of his own Board of Inquiry.  He ignored 16 years of FDA efforts to keep
aspartame off the market.  Then hired on to Nutrasweet public relations.
Federal attorney Sam Skinner was assigned to prosecute the G.D. Searle Co.
for the fraudulent tests they used to get this poison approved, but Sam
switched sides and went to work for Searle's lawyers.
9. FDA has received more complaints on aspartame than all other food
additives but stopped counting reports two years ago and approved it as a
general sweetener in June 1996.  It is now estimated to be in 10,000
products.  The number one source of consumer complaints was "diet" drinks.
10. Aspartame was never and cannot be proven to be safe.  It is not and
cannot be a diet aid because of the formaldehyde (from the breakdown of the
10% methanol) that gets stored in the fat along with some water.  Aspartame
also reduces the level of serotonin (a substance that gives one that "full"
feeling).  It often induces a craving for carbohydrates.  Diminished
serotonin is also linked to behavioral problems.

Ps  Nutrasweet/Equal/Spoonful are the deadliest toxins in our society
because of their ubiquitous presence in thousands of foods alike children's
vitamins, medicines, kool and, Jello and on every restaurant table.  The
American Diabetic Association gets megabucks from NutraSweet, as do many
others.
