The pH test would definitely be thrown off due to the lime not being
completely incorporated into the soil. You can think of it this way; assume
that you have frozen limeade into ice cubes. Now add one of those cubes to
a glass of water. If you test your drink for limeade without letting the
limeade cube completely dissolve, your results would not show the total
limeade, just the limeade that had dissolved. Since the limeade cube would
continue to dissolve until it was completely incorporated into the water,
testing it before complete dissolution doesn't give you much information.
I hope I haven't bored anyone with my limeade analogy. I got to thinking
about plants trying to incorporate the lime, then I went on to thinking, I
wish I had a lime tree, my last lime tree was murdered by a dog. Then my
stream of consciousness went on to limeade... mmm, limeade (to mangle a
Homer Simpson line)
