According to Jerry Baker, (whose knowledge I respect), egg shells take
years to break down. So he recommends putting them in a hot oven for
about an hour. I tried that but the smell in the kitchen was unpleasant
to say the least. In the winter, when I have a fire in the fireplace,
which is just about every day, I burn the eggshells with the wood, then
the ashes go to the compost bin.
