Our soil is black clay and we get plenty of sunlight where our
new garden would be. Thanks for the help. Happy Harvesting!

You didn't mention which Oregon. Is it East Oregon or West Oregon?
I am in West Washington (Tacoma) and also have the black clay; ooooooze in
the wet, rock hard in the dry.
My back yard had been neglected and grass was allowed to grow, seed, die,
and be resurrected in the soil enriched by it,s past life.
I was amazed by the fertility of this "soil" and the way my mid June garden
took off.
Check the condition of what's growing there now, that should give you an
indication of the state of the soil, are there lots of worms? My rock hard
clay is like a worm bin----I really don't understand it, I just use it!
