Broken tomato plants

Due to the extremely stormy weather we've had, I have some broken tomato
plants. The main stems are still attached, but just barely. I could put
the plants on the compost pile and call it quits for the rest of the
growing season, but I really would like to salvage them if I can.
Any ideas on how to make the most of a bad situation? I have thought
about splinting the stems at the break, breaking the stems off completely
and putting them in the ground, or trying to water root .
Advice, experience, or even unsupported shoot-from-the-hip opinions will
be greatly appreciated! I don't think I have anything to lose, so I am
willing to call this a learning experience and try almost anything.
Thanks in advance.
