Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Just a personal observation: This is the first year in at least 15 that we
did not have black plastic down in the tomato and pepper beds(we redid almost
all the beds to get as close to Mel soil as possible)and until this last
mulch post It had not dawned on me that that may be why my tomatoes are
shorter(the staked ones) and less vigoress than usual and the peppers(green
and hot a like) are stunted. I will heavily mulch with organic matter and
good homemade compost and then put down the black garden plastic next year.
I also like the carpet square idea---I use carpet in my paths and it works
great, but I would be sure it had no bad stuff( glue, rubber etc. on the back
if used in the beds.
Hat a great week end all,
Bonnie C. Mt. zone 5 Ut whose potatoes in straw are looking more and more
like a bad experiment---I think the cages were to small around and some got
too much straw too soon and it caved in and covered their poor little growing
points---discovered to late to save them. I was testing several
varieties--oh well, it's part of the joy of gardening there is always next
year--God willing.
