how big do leeks get?

How big around would you say leeks get?  According to that wonderful
website list that someone posted, they're supposed to be 9/sq. ft.

I am going to try the suggestion of putting PVC pipe around each leek so
I can still blanch them in my sq ft w/o having to start growing them
deeper than the rest of the soil.  Never grown leeks successfully before
so I'm excited to see if this works.

Any ideas on how big the PVC should be?  length and width?  I want to
buy the PVC pipe tomorrow so help asap would be greatly appreciated.
