thanks for all the advice guys!  yes, I'd love to see the 10 tips! 
Sounds like a lot more work to excavate a hole rather than using the
tubing method.  I'd have a problem keeping the dirt from caving in since
I use a hose to water.  

To those of you who use tubing, do I understand correctly that you put
the tubing on right away after you plant the seedling?
