How big do leeks get

Although I'm not growing any leeks, the posts have inspired me to start asking 'round for "Slim Fast" cans, removing the ends and placing them in a bag for future use.  They just look like they'd be the right size for some of the uses I keep hearing about and maybe a little sturdier than TP cores.  Will let everyone know how they work out, although I don't expect to use them before next year.  If anyone has any suggestions, fire away.
