Re: Corn, beans and squash

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Hello Laura from Pensacola, welcome!

you seem to be referring to a group planting called The Three Sisters- a
native planting arrangement I have read of. I have no idea what your
planting spacing should be.. squash need a lot of room and corn is a heavy
feeder too. Your garden sounds great. Hope to hear how it grows!

Haveagreatday,
bill missen.

| I am completely new to sqft gardening (and gardening in general), having
| discovered your list while looking for info on raised beds. I really liked
| the idea and have proceeded to turn my backyard into a checkerboard with
four
| 4x4 beds and 4 1x4 beds and a couple of planters and yes I went out and
| bought "the book". Tomatoes are almost 4ft high and hot peppers are just
| about ready to harvest. Eggplants are two feet high the zuchinni, melons
and
| cucumbers all have blossoms. I used cinder blocks on two of my blocks and
I
| have herbs, carrots, radishes, and marigolds and Nastutiums planted in the
| holes.Wow, this is fun!
|
| Here is my question:
| I have two blocks of corn, one early one late. I wanted to try the Native
| American style of interplanting with pole beans allowed to grow up the
stalks
| and squash and pumpkins allowed to cover the ground. Has anyone tried
this?
| Will the soil support that much crop? I mulch heavily and the corn I
planted
| from seed 10 days ago is already almost a foot tall!
| Help........I still want to plant and I've run out of room!
| Is there a gardeners anonymous? "Hello my name is Laura and I'm a sqft
| gardener"
