| Beneficial nematodes are harmless to humans, animals and plants,

| it kills insects in your garden soil. Beneficial nematodes are almost
| ideal agent for insect control. Their effectiveness equals, and in
| some cases surpasses, that of chemical insecticides. In comparison
| with other biopesticides they represent a quantum leap in reliability
| and range of target pest insects. Nematodes can detect the carbon
| dioxide emissions of soil-borne insects and move toward them and
| when
| they sense pest, they are aggressive, mobile predators.
| Once they find their prey, they enter the pest insect through its
| body openings. Inside the pest, the beneficial nematodes
| accompanying
| bacteria prove lethal. Nematodes carry a bacterium (Xenorhabdus
| species) that kills insects within a day or two.
| The bacteria is harmless to humans and other organisms and cannot
| live freely in nature. Several generations of nematodes may live and
| breed within the dead pest until, with their food supply exhausted,
| they emerge and seek out more pests. When no insects are avalable,
| nematodes can survive in moist soils for several weeks.
| Beneficial nematodes are very effective against grubs, cutworms,
| flea
| beetles, fly larvae mole crickets, black vine beetles billbugs,
| fungus gnats, june beetles, and many other soil dwelling pests.
